| 授業の題目 | Introduction to Public Speaking |
| 学修の概要 | This course is designed for students who want to learn basic public speaking and presentation skills. To accomplish this, students will practice the foundational concepts used for self-introduction, information, and demonstration speeches. Besides learning the content and organizational structures of these speeches, a heavy emphasis will be placed on acquiring delivery techniques related to voice inflection, gestures, and body language. Lastly, students will learn where to use visual slides in their presentations as well as understand how to ask and answer basic follow-up questions. |
| 学修の到達目標 | By the end of this course, students will be able to: 1. Organize a short speech using a clear structure (opening–body–closing) and logical sequencing. 2. Deliver a short speech using appropriate voice projection, volume, pace, and pausing. 3. Use effective non-verbal communication, including eye contact, posture, and gestures. 4. Create simple presentation slides (PowerPoint) that support the message clearly and are easy to follow. 5. Ask and answer basic follow-up questions to interact with an audience. 6. Evaluate presentations and apply feedback to improve their own performance. |
| 授業計画 | 第1回 | Topic: Course introduction; syllabus; self-assessment of past presentations. Students will be able to: identify their previous presentation strengths and challenges and set 2–3 improvement goals for the course. |
| 第2回 | Topic: Warm-up presentation: self-introduction; brainstorming techniques. Students will be able to: deliver a short self-introduction using a clear structure and relevant supporting details. |

| 第3回 | Topic: Skills and activities for self-introduction; guided practice. Students will be able to: use basic delivery techniques (eye contact, posture, voice) to present more clearly in front of an audience. |

| 第4回 | Topic: Self-introduction presentations; peer/teacher feedback. Students will be able to: present in front of others and use feedback to improve their next performance. |

| 第5回 | (On-demand / オンデマンド) Topic: Information Speech / Favorite Place: building content and organizing an information speech. Students will be able to: gather relevant supporting information and create a simple outline for an information speech. |

| 第6回 | Topic: Information Speech / Favorite Place: analyzing models; strengthening depth and clarity. Students will be able to: identify effective organization techniques in sample speeches and improve their own outline with clearer support. |

| 第7回 | Topic: Delivery skills: voice stress, volume, pausing; basic Q&A language. Students will be able to: use vocal delivery strategies and respond to simple follow-up questions appropriately. |

| 第8回 | Topic: In-class presentations (Favorite Place); audience awareness; feedback. Students will be able to: deliver an information speech within a time limit and respond to at least one question from the audience. |

| 第9回 | Topic: Feedback and revision: improving content and delivery from Favorite Place presentations. Students will be able to: apply a checklist/rubric to evaluate a presentation and revise their own speech based on feedback. |

| 第10回 | Topic: Demonstration Speech: choosing a topic; explaining steps clearly. Students will be able to: organize a demonstration speech using step-by-step explanation and clear transitions. |

| 第11回 | Topic: Demonstration Speech: analyzing models; improving clarity and audience understanding. Students will be able to: evaluate sample demonstration speeches and revise their own plan to improve clarity and logic. |

| 第12回 | (On-demand / オンデマンド) Topic: Demonstration Speech delivery: gestures, posture, slide layout (basic). Students will be able to: improve delivery using gestures/body posture and design simple slides that support the demonstration. |

| 第13回 | Topic: Practice and improvement: rehearsal strategies; refining speech content. Students will be able to: make targeted adjustments to content and delivery based on a self-checklist and rehearsal timing. |

| 第14回 | Topic: In-class demonstration presentations; Q&A; feedback. Students will be able to: deliver a demonstration speech to a live audience and answer basic follow-up questions. |

| 第15回 | Topic: Final feedback and reflection; course wrap-up. Students will be able to: explain how their presentation skills improved and write a short action plan for continued improvement. |
| 授業外学習の課題 | Students should make every effort to: 1.) Using English as much as possible 2.) Practicing effective time management 3.) Always reviewing and previewing their work (spend 3-4 hours of study time outside of class). 4.) Use the study time to focus on assigned readings, homework, research, and skills practice. |
