| 授業の題目 | Writing about Global Issues |
| 学修の概要 | This class is for students who want to improve their written Academic English Skills. It will be divided into two main areas: the first area will focus on skills for writing descriptive, comparative and argumentative paragraphs. The second area will focus on searching, collecting, analysing and editing information. All students are expected to make and submit five short reports and one final report during the course. All reports will be written, submitted, marked and returned using an online learning system. |
| 学修の到達目標 | Successful students will be able to 1. Write short, effective, understandable and interesting paragraphs. 2. Understand and use document making software e.g. Google Docs. 3. Write well-researched and analysed reports with appropriate use of resources. |
| 授業計画 | 第1回 | Lesson 1: Introduction: objectives, activities, assignments, grading etc. and submission of report 1. Students will learn about basic document formatting and writing skills. Student will be able to write basic format 1: long descriptive report. |
| 第2回 | Lesson 2: Use of AI, introduction of basic format 2: long comparative report and submission of report 2. Introduction and explanation of use of AI agents for writing-suitability, appropriateness and ethics-honesty and dangers of plagiarism. Student will be able to write basic format 2: long comparative report. Students will learn about grading method explanation and be able to understand and correct any errors. Feedback to report 1. |

| 第11回 | Lesson 11: Use of quotes and references within the text and how to avoid plagiarism Students will learn about the correct use of quotes and the dangers of plagiarism. Students will be able to make the first submission of their Final Report. |

| 授業外学習の課題 | Students should make every effort at: 1. Using English as much as possible. 2. Practicing effective time management. 3. Always previewing and reviewing their work. 4. Students should expect to do at least 3-4 hours of outside-class work. 5. All feedback on assignments will be given in class. |
| 履修上の注意事項 | This course is recommended for students of English Level 2 and above. In order to succeed in this course you need to: 1. Attend all the classes in person or online. 2. Actively participate in classroom activities. 3. Complete coursework and presentation to the best of your ability. A code for Google Classroom will given out in the first lesson. NOTE: If a student misses five or more classes then they will not be able to submit a final report or give the final presentation. Subsequently they will not gain credits for this class. Authorised absences will be classed as an 'absence' but will not affect the final students grades. Official proof of the authorised absence will need to be submitted to the Kyogaku Center for it to be approved. Then it will be communicated to the teacher in charge. |

All coursework will be carried out online-coursework setting, submission, correcting and marking. General feedback will be given in class after each coursework is returned and to individual students when needed on case by case basis.
