| 学修の概要 | リーディング・ライティング（文字によるインプット・アウトプット）を中心に基本的な英語コミュニケーション能力を身につけることを目的とします。英語の基礎的な読解力・ライティング力を習得するためのクラスです。「英語I（リーディング・ライティング）」の内容を踏まえつつ、やさしい英語で書かれた読み物からはじめ、徐々にレベルアップしていき、高校までに学んだ単語、熟語、文法を復習しながら、教材中に出てきた表現をアウトプット活動につなぐことも視野に入れて学びます。 |
| 学修の到達目標 | 受講生の英語習熟度を考慮しつつ、リーディング(R)・ライティング(W)に必要な語彙力、文法力をさらに向上させることを目指します。各レベルの到達目標の目安は以下の通りです。 レベル1a:(R)ファストフード・レストランの絵や写真がついたメニューを理解し、選ぶことができる。(W)自分に関すること（名前、住所、家族など）を短い句または文を用いて書くことができる。 レベル1b:(R)短い近況報告（身近な人から携帯メールなどによる旅の思い出など）を理解することができる。(W)短いメッセージカード（誕生日カードなど）や身近なことがらについての短いメモなどを書ける。 レベル1c:(R)個人的な興味のある話題（スポーツ・音楽・旅行など）に関する文章を、イラストや写真も参考にしながら理解することができる。(W)趣味や好き嫌いについて複数の文を用いて書くことができる。 レベル2:(R)簡単な語を用いて書かれた説明文（人物描写、場所の説明、日常生活や文化の紹介など）を理解することができる。(W)簡単な接続詞を用いて、基礎的な句や文を使った簡単な英語で、まとまりのある文章（日記や写真、事物の説明文など）を書くことができる。 レベル3:(R)日常的な話題（生活、趣味、スポーツなど）を扱った文章の要点を理解したり、必要な情報を取り出したりすることができる。(W)聞いたり読んだりした内容（生活や文化の紹介などの説明や物語）であれば、基礎的な日常生活語彙や表現を用いて、感想や意見などを短く書くことができる。 |
| 授業計画 | 第１回 | Introduction: students will refresh their knowledge of the course aims and contents, the class rules, and what is expected of them. Students will participate in communicative activities to get them back into using English after the summer vacation. |
| 第２回 | Unit 5 : Phobias (Part 1) - Students will learn how to identify cause and effect. They will focus on the writing skill of how to organize ideas. They will study the language needed to make suggestions. | |
| 第３回 | Unit 5 : Phobias (Part 2) - Students will read a text about phobias and extract information. They will learn how to add supporting ideas o their writing. | |
| 第４回 | Unit 5 : Phobias (Part 3) - Students will study a second text about phobias. They will complete a writing task giving suggestions to someone who is afraid. | |
| 第５回 | Unit 6 : Adventure (Part 1) - Students will learn how to understanding facts and opinions in written texts. They will learn the writing skill of organizing ideas in time order. | |
| 第６回 | Unit 6 : Adventure (Part 2) - Students will read a text about the pilot Charles Lindbergh and consider the topic of heroes. They will focus on the writing skill of using time order words and expressions. | |
| 第７回 | Unit 6 : Adventure (Part 3) - Students will read about another real-life 'hero' pilot and complete a narrative paragraph about an adventure or trip they went on. | |
| 第８回 | Midterm Test - We will refresh our memories about some of the common mistakes Japanese students make in writing English, before taking a 30 minute written test based on the topics of Units 5 and 6 of the textbook (phobias and adventure). | |
| 第９回 | Unit 7 : Family (Part 1) - Students will study and practice using possessive adjectives, before leanring the writing skill of how to organize ideas to make a comparison. | |
| 第１０回 | Unit 7 : Family (Part 2) - Students will read a text which considers of birth order of siblings influences personality. For this week's writing skill we will study the words and phrases used to show similarities and differences. | |
| 第１１回 | Unit 7 : Family (Part 3) - Students will read a case study on an American family. They will then complete a comparison paragraph about two of their family members. | |
| 第１２回 | Unit 8 : Sports (Part 1) - Students will learn the reading skill of how to recognize the conclusion of a reading. They will learn and practice using expressions to give an opinion. | |
| 第１３回 | Unit 8 : Sports (Part 2) - Students will read a text about a 16 year-old professional athlete; they will acquire the skill of how to write a concluding sentence. | |
| 第１４回 | Unit 8 : Sports (Part 3) - Students will read a second text about a young professional sports player, before writing an opinion paragraph about a young athlete of their choosing. | |
| 第１５回 | Review of textbook Units 5-8 (Topics : phobia, adventure, family, young athletes); students will brainstorm their knowledge of the four topics and write questions for each other to answer. We will also prepare for the final exam by a further look at the most common mistakes Japanese students make in written English and how to avoid them, as well as other tips for exam success such as time management. |
| 授業外学習の課題 | Students will be assigned independent reading and writing tasks for homework. Students will choose an English reader and write a summary together with their opinions of it. Students are required to complete a total of 60 minutes of prior and post-work per class : they should spent 30 minutes after each class reviewing the main points covered, and a further 30 minutes before the next class looking ahead at the next pages of the textbook, checking any unfamiliar vocabulary and familiarizing themselves with the topic and tasks they will be expected to do. |

| 成績評価の方法・基準 | リーディング・プロジェクト(15～20%)、ライティング課題(15～20%）、小・中間・ユニットテスト（①15～20％）、期末テスト（②10～40％）、参加度（～10％）を原則とします。（ただし①と②の合計は50%以下）この他、宿題（～10%）をリーディング・ライティングプロジェクトの一部として課すこともあります。上記に加えて、TOEIC, TOEIC Bridge のスコア等を加味する場合があります。 |
