授業の題目 英語I (リーディング・ライティング) (English I (Reading&Writing))
学修の概要 リーディング・ライティング(文字によるインプット・アウトプット)を中心に基本的な英語コミュニケーション能力を身につけることを目的とします。英語の基礎的な読解力・ライティング力を習得するためのクラスです。やさしい英語で書かれた読み物からはじめ、徐々にレベルアップしていき、高校までに学んだ単語、熟語、文法を復習しながら、教材中に出てきた表現をアウトプット活動につなぐことも視野に入れて学びます。
学修の到達目標 受講生の英語習熟度を考慮しつつ、リーディング(R)・ライティング(W)に必要な語彙力、文法力を向上させることを目指します。各レベルの到達目標の目安は以下の通りです。

レベル1a:(R)日常生活で使われる短く簡単な指示を読み、理解することができる。(W)住所・氏名・職業(自分の学部/学科などを含む)の項目を埋めることができる。

レベル1b:(R)日常生活で使われる馴染みのある語句や単純で短い簡単な文章(ポスターや招待状等)を読み、理解することができる。(W)身近なこと(好き嫌い、家族、学校生活など)について短い文章を書くことができる。

レベル1c:(R)挿絵のある短い物語を理解することができる。(W)自分の経験について、辞書などを参照して短い文章を書くことができる。

レベル2:(R)英語学習者用の短い物語や伝記などを理解することができる。(W)日常的・個人的な内容であれば、招待状、私的な手紙、メモ、メッセージなどを簡単な英語で書くことができる。

レベル3:(R)簡単な語を用いて書かれていれば、実用的・具体的な内容(旅行ガイドブック、レシピ、列車やバスのスケジュールなど)を読み取ったり、必要な情報を探したりすることができる。(W)身の回りのできごとや趣味、場所、仕事などについて、個人的経験や自分に直接必要のある内容であれば、簡単な描写ができる。
授業計画 第1回 -Class, teacher, and student introductions. Students will have a chance to get to know the teacher and each other, and they will explore the class themes through games and question prompts provided by the teacher. All this is to help the students decide if this class is the right fit for them or not.
第2回 -Class rules and expectations. As a class, we will go through the class syllabus to ensure everyone understands what is expected in this class. This will help students prepare for the rest of the semester.
第3回 -Book Introduction. Throughout the semester, the class will read the book, Beauty and the Beast. This lesson will introduce the book; what it's about and how it will fit into the semester's lesson plan. The first reading homework will be assigned at the end of this class. Students will be expected to read a certain number of pages from the book and answer questions about those pages before the next class.
第4回 -Reading and Writing Practice day 1. As a class, we will check the homework reading questions and practice reading comprehension from the text together. We will go over new vocabulary from the reading. Also, as a class we will practice writing simple sentences in English using prompts provided by the teacher. This reading and writing practice is to help deepen the student's understanding of the text and improve their vocabulary, grammar, and confidence when reading and writing in English. The same homework will be assigned as the previous class to ensure students are continuing to read the book. In addition to the usual reading homework, students will take a Google Classroom vocabulary quiz for homework covering the vocabulary we went over in class.

Students will take the usual Google Classroom vocabulary quiz for homework covering the vocabulary we went over in class. No reading homework this week because the next class is a review day. It's recommended that students practice their writing for homework in order to prepare for the next class's writing test.
第7回 -1st writing test and review day. Students will take an in-class writing test using skills we've been practicing in class up until this point. We will have an in-class vocabulary quiz covering the words from the homework vocabulary quiz. As a class, we will review the book so far to give everyone a chance to understand the text more completely and to remember points that may have been forgotten. The usual reading homework will be assigned again to continue with the book. No Google Classroom vocabulary quiz this week.

We will go over new vocabulary from the reading. Also, as a class we will practice writing slightly more complex sentences in English using prompts provided by the teacher. The same homework will be assigned as the previous classes to ensure students are continuing to read the book. In addition to the usual reading homework, students will take a Google Classroom vocabulary quiz for homework covering the vocabulary we went over in class.

The last reading homework will be assigned. In addition to the last reading homework, students will take a Google Classroom vocabulary quiz for homework covering the vocabulary we went over in class.
第10回 -Reading and Writing Practice day 6. As a class, we will check the homework reading questions and practice reading comprehension from the text together. We will go over new vocabulary from the reading. We will have an in-class vocabulary quiz covering the words from the homework vocabulary quiz. Also, as a class we will practice writing slightly more complex sentences in English using prompts provided by the teacher. This reading and writing practice is to help deepen the student's understanding of the text and improve their vocabulary, grammar, and confidence when reading and writing in English. The teacher will pass back the 1st writing test results so students can use the feedback to improve themselves. No more reading homework because all students should have finished the book by now. Students will take the last Google Classroom vocabulary quiz for homework covering the vocabulary we went over in class. It's recommended that students practice their writing for homework in order to prepare for the next class's writing test.
第11回 -2nd writing test and review day. Students will take an in-class writing test using skills we've been practicing in class up until this point. We will have an in-class vocabulary quiz covering the words from the homework vocabulary quiz. As a class, we will review the entire book to give everyone a chance to understand the text more completely and to remember points that may have been forgotten.
第12回 -Watch a movie day 1. In class, we will start watching the movie, Disney's, Beauty and the Beast. Students will be expected to answer comprehension questions while they watch the movie. The purpose of watching the movie is to develop skills of comparing and contrasting the movie and the book.
第13回 -Watch a movie day 2. In class, we will finish watching the movie, Disney's, Beauty and the Beast. Students will be expected to answer comprehension questions while they watch the movie. After the movie, as a class, we will check the movie comprehension questions. The purpose of watching the movie is to develop skills of comparing and contrasting the movie and the book.
第14回 -Book vs. movie discussion and writing practice. As a class we will compare and contrast the book and the movie. Also, as a class, we will practice writing using all of the skills we've learned so far in class using promopts provided by the teacher. The teacher will pass back the 2nd writing test results so students can use the feedback to improve themselves.It's recommended that students practice their writing for homework in order to prepare for the next class's writing test.
第15回 -3rd writing test and preparation for the final exam. Students will take an in-class writing test using skills we've been practicing in class up until this point. The teacher will provide information that will help the students prepare for the final exam and give them an oppurtunity to ask questions in class. The final exam will test the students' understanding of the book, the movie, and vocabulary.
授業外学習の課題 -15 reflection sentences, 1 due at the end of each class. 6 Google Classroom Vocabulary Quizzes covering vocabulary from the book. 3 Writing Tests covering writing skills practiced in class. 1 exam covering the material from the book covered throughout the semester.
履修上の注意事項 -*学生が5回欠席すると、自動的にクラスから除外されます。許可された欠席者には個別指導が提供されます。* *学生は毎週少なくとも45分を授業の準備に費やすべきです*
このコースで成功するには、学生は次の条件を満たしている必要があります。
1) 出席率と時間厳守。
2) 授業と宿題の成績。
3) 意欲と参加度の高さ。

成績評価の方法・基準 リーディング・プロジェクト(15~20%)、ライティング課題(15~20%)、小・中間・ユニットテスト(①15~20%)、期末テスト(②10~40%)、参加度(~10%)を原則とします。(ただし①と②の合計は50%以下)この他、宿題(~10%)をリーディング・ライティングプロジェクトの一部として課すこともあります。上記に加えて、TOEIC, TOEIC Bridge のスコア等を加味する場合があります。
