| 学修の概要 | This Fall semester course is designed to engage learners by giving them greater insight into intercultural perspectives from outside of Japan. Materials for active participation (suitable for any language proficiency level - あらゆる言語熟練度レベルに適しています) include relevant topics to explore other cultural realities through everyday life. Input includes (1) surveys on the topics, (2) project support in print and audio, and (3) additional material on cultural patterns. Output will be conducted in (1) classmate interviews, (2) discussion questions, (3) task and exercises, and (4) using expressions and vocabulary support to guide your own explanations as needed in solo, pair, and group projects and tasks (*including independent self-study, a cultural pattern analysis, decision-making/problem-solving challenges, and a group project presentation). | 学修の到達目標 | With no exams conducted in the course, the focus is on independent self-reflection and thought, collaborating with partners and group members, and experiential 'learning by doing' while using one's existing foreign language abilities and improving upon them for your own goals. By the end of this course, students will be able to: (a) reflect on their own lifestyle and opinions to broaden their worldview by starting from and then moving beyond their current life experience, (b) demonstrate communication skills in qualifying what they say, offering personal points of view, & reacting respectfully to differences as needed to speak with nuance and to express and support opinions rationally and (c) apply an investigative, curious frame of mind into the influences of cultural difference in daily life in Japan and the culture mosaic outside of Japan. コース内で試験は行われず、自主的な内省と思考、パートナーやグループメンバーとの協力、既存の外国語能力を活用し、自分の目標に向けて向上させながら「実践して学ぶ」体験に重点が置かれます。 このコースを終了するまでに、学生は次のことができるようになります: (a) 自分のライフスタイルと意見を振り返り、現在の人生経験から出発し、それを超えて世界観を広げること、(b) 自分の発言を適切に評価するコミュニケーション スキルを実証すること 、個人的な視点を提供し、必要に応じて違いに敬意を持って反応し、ニュアンスを込めて話し、意見を合理的に表現しサポートします。また、(c) 日本と日本の日常生活における文化の違いの影響に対して、調査的で好奇心旺盛な考え方を適用します。 日本国外の文化モザイク。 |

| 授業外学習の課題 | In this course, taught mostly in English (教科書の説明は英語と日本語で書かれています), students are expected to complete 45-60 minutes of weekly out-of-class study on: (a) homework, (b) self-reflections online & (c) preparation for individual tasks and pair/group projects. |
| 履修上の注意事項 | This task-based course uses experiential 'learning by doing' by providing meaningful interactive and personalized tasks focused on practical communication purposes in pairwork and small group activities.
