授業の題目 | Learning and Talking about SDGs in English |
学修の概要 | In recent years, SDGs have become a familiar term used in Japan, but what do they actually mean? What are some of the major environmental, societal, and economic issues--for the world and for YOUR community--that are found behind these Sustainable Development Goals? How can you talk about them in English with your non-Japanese friends so that you can exchange your thoughts and opinions on how to start taking even small actions towards resolving them? In this course, you will learn about some of these ("Glocal"= Global and Local) issues through recent data and reading/listening materials in (easier) English. At the same time, you will learn new vocabulary used to talk about these topics, work on some challenging language points, and also practice putting your thoughts and opinions into clear English. You will also exchange your thoughts with others in English, both in and out of the classroom. In other words, you will learn both the CONTENT of actual SDG issues and the LANGUAGE of how to discuss them with others in English. |
学修の到達目標 | By the end of the course, you will be able to: 1. Understand some current issues and situations regarding SDGs, both globally and in Japan, through bilingual lectures and readings as well as listening material in English. 2. Learn and use the necessary vocabulary and structures used to talk about SDG issues. 3. Increase your confidence in expressing your own thoughts in English, and responding to those of others, through actual experience and reflection. |
