学修の概要 | This class will develop the skills that were started in Contemporary Writing Skills and Writing about Global Issues Academic English Skills will be further improved with more emphasis on researching and presenting skills. Suitable areas, branches and themes for research will be introduced and highlighted and from these areas etc. the students will be expected to select a topic connected to "global issues". Following this area etc. the students will carry out research to make a presentation during the course. All coursework written, submitted, marked and returned using an online learning system. |
学修の到達目標 | Successful students will be able to 1. Select a "global issue" to research and base a presentation upon. 2. Look for and find research resources and determine their applicability to the research theme. 3. Plan and produce well researched, understandable, effective and interesting academic presentations. 4. Use online software and tools to make and share presentations and videos both domestically and internationally. |
授業計画 | 第1回 | Introduction: objectives, activities, assignments, grading etc. Student will receive an explanation about online work and will be able to understand the end of term presentations. |
第2回 | Students will learn about and be able to understand handouts & basic formats of reports. Student will receive an explanation and refresher on online software and tools e.g Google Slides, Zoom and Padlet. Students will be able to gain basic understanding of how to use online software and tools. |

授業外学習の課題 | Students should make every effort at: 1. Using English as much as possible. 2. Practicing effective time management. 3. Always previewing and reviewing their work. 4. Students should expect to do at least 3-4 hours of outside-class work. 5. All feedback on assignments will be given in class or online |
履修上の注意事項 | This course is recommended for students of English Level 2 and above. In order to succeed in this course you need to: 1. Have attended and successfully completed either Contemporary Writing Skills or Writing about Global Issues or both 2. Attend all the classes 3. Actively participate in classroom activities 4. Complete coursework to the best of your ability A code for Google Classroom will given out in the first lesson. NOTE: If a student misses five or more classes then they will not be able to make a final presentation. Subsequently they will not gain credits for this class. Official absences (e.g. representing the university for sport or other such events) will be classed as an 'absence' but will not affect the final students grades. Authorised proof of the official absence will need to be submitted to the teacher. |
成績評価の方法・基準 | 1. Active Participation & Performance: 15% 2. Coursework (Reports): 35% 3: Final Presentation 50% All coursework will be set, collected and marked online via Google Classroom. The final presentation will take place in the classroom and will be peer evaluated. This evaluation will be checked and finally assessed by the instructor. |

General feedback will be given in class after each coursework is returned and to individual students when needed on case by case basis.
