授業の題目 Global Special Lecture Ⅲ_11
学修の概要 This is a course mainly for motivated students who are seriously interested on going on a medium to long-term study
abroad or exchange program while at this university.
This applies to English speaking countries as well as European countries (France, Germany, the Czech Republic and Spain) and Asian countries (China, South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam)
All students should be ready to put in the work to gain high-level English and cross-cultural communication skills.
The course will mainly be taught in English with some Japanese. Lastly, students will demonstrate their experiences and knowledge in a presentation based on an overseas location of their choosing.
学修の到達目標 By the end of the course, successful students will be:
1. Aware of the position of English and other global languages in the world.
2. Able to research, analyze and present information about the region, country or university where
they are going to study abroad.
3. Able to think deeply on the significance of studying abroad and put that into an 'action plan' and
how to acquire and develop the knowledge, abilities and attitudes needed.
授業計画 第1回 Introductions, goals, and explanation of course objectives and class contents.
Student survey of areas interested in.
Student will be able to identify the areas (destination, length and contents of programme) they are interested in.
第2回 Exploring the overseas destinations and defining study abroad targets.
Student will be able to define their own study aboard targets.
第3回 Discussion of study abroad targets, setting targets and devising study plans.
Student will be able to devise study plans for their own programmes.
第4回 Description and explanation of medium-term seminars.
Students will be able to identify which medium term seminars they are interested in or best suited to.
第5回 Description and explanation of exchange programs.
Students will be able to identify which exchange programs they are interested in or best suited to.
第6回 Communicating across boundaries: dealing with short term culture shock
Students will be able to identify short term culture shock and devise possible ways to deal with it.
第7回 Midterm reflection and mini-presentations
Students will be able to carry out self assessment on the study abroad program(s) they are interested in and carry out mini presentations
第8回 Communicating across boundaries: dealing with long term culture shock
Students will be able to identify long term culture shock and devise possible ways to deal with it.
第9回 The Iceberg Model of Culture: differences in objectives, interpretations, and judgements
Students will be able to identify 'visible' and 'hidden' culture differences.
第10回 Advise for Studying Abroad-The School Experience: strategies to succeed in a new environment
Students will be able to develop strategies to succeed in a new living and learning environments
第11回 Study on the knowledge, skills and attitude required for a successful study abroad experience
Students will be able to enhance their knowledge and identify skills and attitudes necessary for a successful study abroad experience.
第12回 Survey of the area / university for study abroad (1) Individual work
Students will be able to carry out research and preparation on the country and university that they wish study in and at.
第13回 Survey of the area / university for study abroad (2) Individual work
Students will be able to carry out research and preparation on the country and university that they wish study in and at.
第14回 Presentation of Study Abroad Plans by Students and Peer Q&A Session 1
There will be two groups "Presenters" and " Questioners".
All "Presenters" will make an approximate 10 minute presentation.
Each "Presenter" will be asked 1 (ONE) question by a "Questioner"
Their roles will reversed for week 15.
All students' presentations will be peer reviewed online by the other students in the class.
第15回 Presentation of Study Abroad Plans by Students and Peer Q&A Session 2
There will be two groups "Presenters" and " Questioners".
All "Presenters" will make an approximate 10 minute presentation.
Each "Presenter" will be asked 1 (ONE) question by a "Questioner"
Their roles will be the reverse of week 14
All students' presentations will be peer reviewed online by the other students in the class.
授業外学習の課題 Students should make every effort at:
1.) Using English as much as possible
2.) Practicing effective time management
3.) Always reviewing and previewing their work (3-4 hours per week)
4.) For the final presentations, students are expected to carry out research, analysis and preparation
outside of class where necessary.
履修上の注意事項 In order to succeed in this course you need to:
1.) Attend all classes face to face
2.) Actively participate in all class activities
3.) Complete tests and homework to the best of your ability
4.) Register into your Google Classroom
5.) Up to 36 students can be allowed into the course
成績評価の方法・基準 The grade is composed of the following:
1.) Coursework-50%
2.) Active Participation-15%
3.) Presentation-35%

All coursework will be carried out online-coursework setting, submission, correcting and marking.
General feedback will be given in class after each coursework is returned and to individual students when needed on case by case basis.
Additional feedback or guidance can be made by arrangement with the teacher in the class.

NOTE:
If a student misses five or more classes then they will not be able to submit a final report or give the final presentation. Subsequently they will not gain credits for this class.
Official absences (e.g. representing the university for sport or other such events) will be classed as an 'absence' but will not affect the final students grades. Authorised proof of the official absence will need to be submitted to the Kyogaku Center for it to be approved. Then it will be communicated to the teacher in charge.

Logic of Presentation Very logical throughout, without error. Logically consistent all the way to the conclusion. Although it is logically in place, it can be improved. It is not logically organized and the purpose is vague. The presentation needs to be improved logically.

Valid materials have been selected and there are no problems with quoting them. The material is not shown or there is an error in the citation method. Materials selected not used correctly
