| 学修の概要 | 英語によるリスニング・スピーキング（音声インプット・アウトプット）を中心に基本的な英語コミュニケーション能力を身につけることを目的とします。英語のリスニング・スピーキングに最低限必要な語彙力や文法力を習得するためのクラスです。常に意味と文法を意識して英語を聴き、そして発話する練習を行ない、英語によるコミュニケーション能力を養います。 |
| 学修の到達目標 | 受講生の英語習熟度を考慮しつつ、リスニング・スピーキングに最低限必要な語彙力、文法力を身につけることを目指します。各レベルの到達目標の目安は以下の通りです。 レベル1a:(L)classroom Englishによる短く簡単な指示を理解することができる。(S)個人的な話題（家族・日課、趣味など）について、基礎的な表現や文を使って、自分で質問したり、質問に答えたりすることができる。はっきりと話されれば、なじみのある話題（趣味、部活動など）に関して、簡単な質疑応答をすることができる。 レベル1b:(L)はっきりと話されれば、身近な話題（趣味やスポーツ、部活動など）に関する短い話を理解することができる。(S)なじみのある身近な話題（スポーツや食べ物などの好き嫌いなど）に関して、簡単な意見交換をすることができる。準備すれば、身近な話題について、基礎的な語句や構文を用いて簡単な意見を言うことができる。 レベル1c:(L)はっきりと話されれば、身近な話題（自分自身や自分の家族・学校・地域など）に関連したなじみのある語、単純な句や表現を理解することができる。(S)はっきりと話されれば、なじみのある話題（趣味、部活動など）に関して、簡単な質疑応答をすることができる。準備すれば、身近な話題について複数の文で意見を言うことができる。 レベル2：(L)はっきりと話されれば、公共の乗り物や駅や空港の短いアナウンスを理解することができる。英語学習者用の短い物語や伝記などを理解することができる。(S)順序を表す表現（first, then, next など）や基本的な表現や句を使って、単純な指示や道案内などをすることができる。自分の趣味や特技に触れながらある程度の長さの自己紹介をすることができる。 レベル3：(L)はっきりと話されれば、ゲームのルールなどの一連の行動を理解し、指示通りに動くことができる。（S)簡単な英語で意見や気持ちをやりとりしたり、賛成や反対などの自分の意見を伝えたり、物や人を比べたりすることができる。視覚的補助を利用しながら、身近な話題(自分、学校、地域など）について短いスピーチをすることができる。 |

| 第２回 | Unit 2 listening practice followed by dictation and discussion: students will think about food culture in Japan and compare with other culture's food culture. The teacher will provide a visual presentation of other country's food for students to reflect on and think about the differences with Japan. | |
| 第３回 | Unit 3 listening followed by dictation and discussion- Talking about an older person you respect; discussion: healthy life styles. Unit 4 dictation and discussion: marriages (across-cultures). | |
| 第４回 | Unit 5 listening followed by dictation and discussion on crime (especially America and Japan compared) to use language to discuss social issues. | |
| 第５回 | [On Demand class] unit 6: listen to the unit for next week's dictation: we will focus on discussion of family life and there will be a mini-report to be submitted through Google Classroom which will serve as a mid-term exam. Specifics on how to write the essay will be provided through Google. | |

| 第１１回 | Unit 14 listening followed by dictation and discussion on political life in Japan and then other countries. The instructor will present his own material on other countries political systems. This file document will be posted on-line, as well. | |

Emglish will be developed more to discuss the contours of the world today, as a preliminary to discussing more global issues in the second semester. Then Unit 21 dictation and discussion on ideal career goals, with special attention to working in international (globalized) contexts. |
| 授業外学習の課題 | Students are expected to study for about 4 hours for each class. 1) About 2 hours should be spend reviewing the last class- specifically listening to the mp3 file and the grammar targets outlined in the text which we practiced speaking. 2) 2 hours should be spent preparing for the next class- listening to the mp3 file which you have downloaded and preparing for discussion from the supplementary materials uploaded into Google Classroom. |
| 履修上の注意事項 | Students must download the mp3 file (for free) from the publisher's website and listen on a regular (weekly) basis. We will use Google Classroom (access code to be given in class). This will be used for supplementary assignments and communication about important assignments for the class. | 成績評価の方法・基準 | リスニング・プロジェクト(15～20%)、スピーキング課題(15～20%）、小・中間・ユニットテスト（①15～20％）、期末テスト（②10～40％）、参加度（～10％）を原則とします。（ただし①と②の合計は50%以下） なお、この他、宿題（～10%）をリスニング・スピーキングプロジェクトの一部として課すこともあります。 |
