| 学修の概要 | This spring term English course will foster student interest in using English for work by building on communication skills developed in other English classes. Business English (BE) expressions for communication, topic-focused vocabulary, and practical language patterns are introduced in 4 skills (L, R, Wr, & Sp) tasks for business situations. In addition to BE course materials, an online business simulation game (ADSIM) will provide opportunities for active participation using the language skills needed in spoken and written business communication in company teams for advertising planning and strategy meetings. (BC = Business Communications / WW = Working with Words) [10 years of FT experience in Sales & Marketing in Canada and 5 years of part-time work teaching Business English in Japanese companies] |
| 学修の到達目標 | Students will be able to demonstrate (1) knowledge of the key terms for business communications and advertising strategy, (2) skills in business information analysis and negotiation in meetings for media decisions, and (3) the attitude to cooperate actively in team projects and complete independent self-study. |

| 授業外学習の課題 | In this “flipped classroom” students are expected to complete weekly H/W online in Google Classroom and on the Publisher's website to review and preview lessons (around 60 minutes) with added preparation out of class on (1) individual tasks and (2) the information analysis needed for in-class meetings, discussions, and communication in company teams for decisions in the business simulation game (ADSIM). |
| 履修上の注意事項 | This course taught in English focuses on practical communication purposes in business in pairs and small groups to (a) interact socially, (b) plan, schedule, & exchange information, and (c) discuss & negotiate in decision making meetings. Homework & self-study projects will be completed online in Google Classroom where supplementary materials and a schedule of assignment deadlines will also be provided. (*Please have access to a dictionary.) | 成績評価の方法・基準 | Ongoing assessment will be conducted on active participation in class and weekly homework in Google Classroom & online 15%, 2 projects (individual & group) 25%, an independent self-study case 10%, the business simulation game (decisions, report, & presentation) 25%, and 3 knowledge review quizzes plus a final exam 25%. |
