| 学修の概要 | This is an English discussion class with a focus on world issues. This class will cover issues like class struggle, LGBT+ struggles, and war & conflict. Through lectures, films, and especially student discussions, students will be given the space to explore these issues through in international and English perspective with Japanese support. 世界の問題に焦点を当てた英語ディスカッションクラスです。階級闘争、LGBT+の闘争、戦争・紛争といった問題を取り上げます。講義、映画、そして特に学生同士のディスカッションを通して、学生はこれらの問題を国際的な視点と英語の視点から、日本語のサポートを受けながら探求する機会を得ます。 |
| 学修の到達目標 | The ability to express your opinions and the ability to understand different perspectives are important skills in any language. This class gives students the opportunity to practice these skills. In addition to this, students are given the opportunity to practice these skills in English and learn the vocabulary and language beats unique to these world issue topics. 自分の意見を表現する力と、異なる視点を理解する力は、どの言語においても重要なスキルです。このクラスでは、これらのスキルを練習する機会を提供します。さらに、これらのスキルを英語で練習し、世界の諸問題に特有の語彙や表現を学ぶ機会も提供します。 |
| 授業計画 | 第１回 | Teacher Introduction and Syllabus Explanation. Students will get to know their teacher and the class expectations and schedule |
| 第２回 | Student Introductions and World Issues General Discussion. The teacher will have an opportunity to get to know the students and the students will be able to practice introductions in English. Students will get a taste of what the class will be like moving forward through brief small group and class discussions about world issues with prompts and assistance from the teacher. | |
| 第３回 | Topic 1 (Class Struggle) Introduction. Students will be introduced to the content of the topic; the topic's vocabulary and themes through lectures, videos, and small group discussions. | |
| 第４回 | Topic 1 (Class Struggle) Explore. Students will deepen their understanding of the topic's content; they will be given a chance to discuss concepts and use the vocabulary from the topic in small group conversations. | |
| 第５回 | Topic 1 (Class Struggle) Wrap Up and Prepare for the Debate. Any final discussions on the topic will be finished and students will be given time to prepare for the debate. | |
| 第６回 | Debate Day. Students will be split into "Pro" and "Opposed" sides to debate a pre decided argument related to the topic. The first Topic Report will be assigned for homework. | |

| 成績評価の方法・基準 | Class participation, including both in and out of class weekly assignments, (40%~50%). Main graded assignment, meaning the 3 debates, (30%~40%). Small quizzes covering the topics, (10%~20%). 授業内外の毎週の課題を含む授業参加度（40%～50%）。主な採点課題、つまり3つの討論会、（30%～40%）。トピックに関する小クイズ（10%～20%）。 |
