学修の概要 | This is an English current events class that is largely exploratory. Students will be given the opportunity to choose themes to research and news articles to read and to share. The teacher will guide and prompt this research and provide information to help students navigate different kinds of information and information in English. これは、主に探究的な内容の英語時事問題クラスです。学生は、自ら調べるテーマとニュース記事を選び、それを読んで共有する機会が与えられます。教師は、学生が様々な情報や英語の情報にアクセスできるよう、指導・促し、情報を提供します。 |
学修の到達目標 | These days, we have almost limitless access to information, any time, anywhere. The ability to navigate information and judge whether that information is real or biased are important skills in any language. This class gives students the opportunity to practice these skills. In addition to this, students are given the opportunity to practice these skills in English and learn the vocabulary and language beats unique to different themes. 現在はいつでもどこでも、ほぼ無限の情報にアクセスできます。情報を適切に捉え、その情報が真実か偏っているかを判断する能力は、どの言語においても重要なスキルです。このクラスでは、学生たちにこれらのスキルを練習する機会を提供します。さらに、学生たちはこれらのスキルを英語で練習し、様々なテーマに特有の語彙や言語的リズムを学ぶ機会も得られます。 |

第2回 | Student Introductions, Current Events General Discussion, and Choose 1st News Topic. The teacher will have an opportunity to get to know the students and the students will be able to practice introductions in English. Students will get a taste of what the class will be like moving forward through brief small group and class discussions about current events with prompts and assistance from the teacher. The 1st news topic will be decided as a class. | |

The teacher will explain some background information share different articles on the decided topic to help the students understand said topic better. The teacher will explain different ways to search for articles and students will discuss this in small groups and as a class. | |
第4回 | 1st News Topic Lecture & Discussion Wrap Up, How to Cite Articles 101 Lecture & Discussion, Prepare for the 1st Group Presentation. Any final discussion on the news topic will be finished. The teacher will explain the correct way to cite an article and students will discuss this in small groups and as a class. Students will be given time to prepare for their group presentations. | |

第7回 | 2nd News Topic Lecture & Discussion, How to Spot "Fake" News Articles 101 Lecture & Discussion. The teacher will explain some background information share different articles on the decided topic to help the students understand said topic better. The teacher will explain how to recognize if an article is "fake" or not and students will discuss this in small groups and as a class. | |

第12回 | 3rd News Topic Lecture & Discussion Wrap Up, Why is Fake & Biased News Dangerous 101 Lecture & Discussion, Prepare for the 3rd Group Presentation. Any final discussion on the news topic will be finished. The teacher will explain why fake and biased news is dangerous for society and students will discuss this in small groups and as a class. Students will be given time to prepare for their group presentations. | |

成績評価の方法・基準 | Class participation, including both in and out of class weekly assignments, (50%~60%). Main graded assignment, meaning the news critique assignment, (30%~40%). Small quizzes covering the textbook, (10%~20%). 授業内外の毎週の課題を含む授業参加度(50%~60%)。主な採点対象となる課題、つまりニュース批評課題(30%~40%)。(30%~40%)。教科書を網羅した小テスト(10%~20%)。 |
