学修の概要 | In the modern world, we are all interconnected and have constant access to limitless information. Understanding how we are interconnected and how to be critical of the information we see, are essential skills. A lot of the information we have access to is in English, making English an important language to know these days. In this class, we will explore different parts of the world and discuss the events that are taking place there in English. We will compare and contrast these places with Japan to see how we are connected and we will analyze information and learn out to check how accurate it is. 現代社会では、互いにつながっており、無限の情報に常にアクセスできます。どのようにつながっているか、そして目にする情報に批判的になる方法を理解することは、不可欠なスキルです。アクセスできる情報の多くは英語で書かれているため、英語は今日では重要な言語となっています。このクラスでは、世界のさまざまな場所を探索し、そこで起こっている出来事を英語で話し合います。これらの場所と日本を比較対照して、どのようにつながっているかを確認し、情報を分析して、それがどれだけ正確であるかを確認します。 |
学修の到達目標 | This class will cover all aspects of the English language; listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary. However, this class is heavily focused on listening and speaking, particulary conversation skills. This is because, living in Japan, most students don't have the chance to have conversations with others in English often, so this class provides you with that chance. Through the textbook, videos, and other materials, as a class we will have fun exploring different parts of the world and collecting information to discuss. When this class is over, the goal is for students to be more confident in English but also to have a better understanding of the world, how interconnected we are, and that all information should be looked at with a critical eye and not blindly believed. このクラスでは、リスニング、スピーキング、リーディング、ライティング、文法、語彙など、英語のあらゆる側面をカバーします。ただし、このクラスでは、リスニングとスピーキング、特に会話スキルに重点を置いています。これは、日本に住んでいるほとんどの学生が英語で他の人と会話する機会があまりないため、このクラスでその機会を提供するためです。 |

第15回 | News Critique Assignment Due Date & Discussion, students will have their assignment finished and ready to hand in at the beginning of class, students will discuss their assignments in small groups to help them process what they wrote. Students should be able to find a topic and analyze that topic in English both through writing and speaking |

成績評価の方法・基準 | Class participation, including both in and out of class weekly assignments, (50%~60%). Main graded assignment, meaning the news critique assignment, (30%~40%). Small quizzes covering the textbook, (10%~20%). 授業内外の毎週の課題を含む授業参加度(50%~60%)。主な採点対象となる課題、つまりニュース批評課題(30%~40%)。(30%~40%)。教科書を網羅した小テスト(10%~20%)。 |
