授業題目 アクティブ・イングリッシュⅠ (Active English I)
授業の概要 This Spring semester course is designed to engage learners by giving them greater insight into Japanese unique culture. Materials for active participation (suitable for any language proficiency level - あらゆる言語熟練度レベルに適しています) include 15 interesting topics, closely related to everyday life, from a column that appeared in The Japan Times. Input includes (1) a reading passage of about 300 words with (2) related vocabulary and (3) a conversation to listen to. Output will be done in the form of (1) comprehension checks for understanding, (2) discussion questions, and in (3) solo, pair, and group projects and tasks (*including a creative proposal, a mini-debate, decision-making/problem-solving meetings, peer teaching to classmates, and a poster presentation). 学習の到達目標 "With no exams conducted in the course, the focus is on thinking independently, working cooperatively with others in a group, and 'learning by doing' while using the foreign language you have now and improving on those abilities for your own purposes. By the end of this course, students will be able to: (a) view language as a tool for communication and making meaning, (b) demonstrate communication skills in interaction, presentation, negotiation, & decision making that are needed in all walks of life after university, and (c) self-assess their strengths & weaknesses to plan further development according to their individual goals. このコースでは試験はなく、自分自身で考え、グループで協力し、今持っている外国語の力を使い、また、自分自身の目的のためにその能力を向上させながら「実践して学ぶ」ことに重点が置かれています。 このコースを修了するまでに、次のことができるようになります。
(a) 言語を、コミュニケーションと意味を伝えるためのツールとして見ること。(b) 大学卒業後の人生のあらゆる場面で必要とされる、対話、プレゼンテーション、交渉、意思決定におけるコミュニケーション・スキルを持っていることを示すこと。(c) 自分の長所と短所を自己評価し、各自の目標に応じてさらなる成長を計画すること。"

授業外学習の課題 In this course, taught mostly in English (教科書の説明は英語と日本語で書かれています), students are expected to complete (a) weekly self-reflections online and (b) prepare out of class for individual tasks and group projects (60 minutes).
履修上の注意事項 This task-based course uses experiential 'learning by doing' by providing meaningful interactive and personalized tasks focused on practical communication purposes in pairwork and small group activities. Google Classroom will be used to support the course with bilingual outlines of the homework and projects in addition to a schedule of assignment deadlines and access to any supplementary materials. このタスクベースのコースは、ペアワークや小グループ活動での実践的なコミュニケーション目的に焦点を当てた有意義なインタラクティブで個人化されたタスクを提供することにより、経験的な「実践による学習」を利用します。 Google Classroom は、課題の締め切りスケジュールや補足資料へのアクセスに加えて、宿題やプロジェクトのバイリンガル概要でコースをサポートするために使用されます。
