| 授業の概要 | This course aims to develop more advanced oral advanced discussion skills, with some emphasis on Business English (vocabulary, expresssions) and cross-clutural communication styles, as well as oral presentation skills. |
| 学習の到達目標 | Through interactive authentic English listening and materials, and various discussion topics, students should be more actively involved in English discussions strengthening improvement in vocabulary, fluency, accuracy, and thought organization. |
| 授業計画 | 第１回 | Introduction to the scope of the course: the importance of global English and identifying global issues which will be part of the discussions and presentations in the course. Instructor's presentation on American business culture for warm up reflection and discussion. |
| 第２回 | Discussion topic for discussion- exploring some of the key issues in this course which student needs to begin researching and thinking about, for the selection of student presentations | |
| 第３回 | Discussion topic: Introduction to SWOT analysis in business as a way to develop essential vocabulary and expressions to prepare for student presentations. | |
| 第４回 | Discussion topic: what business sectors are interesting to you (and how they differ): industry, retail sales, fashion, IT, finance. Homework: identify the various business sectors and identify the key features of each sector. | |
| 第５回 | Discussion topic: defining and talking about economic globalization: what are some the key issues (and conflicts) in global trade Homework: How do students feel about free trade vs. economic nationalist policies (discussion and debate). | |
| 第６回 | Discussion topic: sustainable development- exploring the varying definitions and how these issues are now at the forefront of business communication and business studies in general. Homework: brainstorming how to overcome the huge challenges of sustainable development. | |
| 第７回 | Discussion topic: Describing key security issues and political conflicts now and in the recent past. How communication conflicts/misunderstandings are involved with conflict. Homework: be prepared to discuss what are some the biggest security threats to globalization today. | |
| 第８回 | Discussion topic: student presentations day - sustainable development challenges and how to deal with them. Special focus/exercises to instruct students to the specialized vocabulary and English expression necessary for discussion in this area. Homework: find a green company and explain their strategies for sustainable development | |
| 第９回 | Discussion topic: debate on the previous week's issues raised on sustainable development. Homework: What are the biggest challenges to sustainable development. | |
| 第１０回 | Discussion topic: Corporate Social Responsbility (CSR); business ethics; fraud and the case of Enron and Lehman shock ( instructor's presentation); follow-up discussion | |
| 第１１回 | Discussion topic: Camparison of Japanese and American business culture and etiquette. Homework: choose a particular company you would like to work for and be prepared to discuss why it is a good company in your eyes. | |
| 第１２回 | Discussion topic: based on homework, your hopes and dreams for future careers. Also imagining what it might like to create your own innovative company. | |
| 第１３回 | Discussion topic: Government regulations. How should government regulate companies.....pollution, worker safety, labor issues | |
| 第１４回 | Reflection and review discussion on current issues and trends in the global market place. Imagining future trends: what will the (business) world be like in 10 years from now? | |
| 第１５回 | Discussion for the upcoming final exam: students choose one of the topics of most interest to them in this course and we work on the English expressions and usage rules to express these opinions. |
| 授業外学習の課題 | You will be assigned short weekly homework assignments as described above. Come prepared to actively participate. Keeping up with business economic news as well as world news in general (through recommended websites in English) will be essential. |

| 成績評価の方法・基準 | The course will be graded on presentations (60%) , class performance/attitude (20%), final exam,(20%). |
| テキスト | Original text materials to be designed and provided by the teacher, free online (Google Clasroom) or in class or teacher's website for download. |
| 参考文献 | Extra materials and links to relevant websites (e.g. Fortune 550 companies) will be provided during the course. One on-demand class will be set and announced at the beginning of the semester. |
