授業題目 Business English II
授業の概要 This fall term English course will further develop student interest in using English for work by building on the intercultural understanding and self-expression abilities introduced in previous English courses. Business English expressions, language usage, and speaking strategies to deal with business encounters are presented in listening and speaking tasks to offer opportunities to participate actively and demonstrate the communication abilities needed for decision making and business exchanges in a global context.

学習の到達目標 This is a task-based 4-skills course that further builds on students’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes of the language and communication functions required in the workplace. At the end of the course, students will be able to:
1) handle communication and breakdowns in interactions in English in a business setting
2) use English in general business situations to manage typical face to face encounters and inquiries by phone
3) demonstrate the ability to research and analyze business department functions and explain them in a business presentation
4) independently use online study tools outside of class to self-assess progress achieved and to identify areas for further improvement

授業外学習の課題 Students will be expected to participate actively in class activities with pair work, group work, and role plays. Case study situations and videos will be used to provide content and samples for meaningful discussions and authentic communication tasks in class.
履修上の注意事項 This course, taught in English, focuses on 4-skills and the language for practical communication purposes in business. Active participation is expected in pairs, small groups, and case study discussions. Typical scenarios for business communication will be introduced in 4 areas: (a) socializing, (b) exchanging information, (c) telephoning, & (d) meetings.
1) Please arrive on time, attend all lessons (limit absenteeism), and participate actively in this class taught live and face-to-face on campus.【対面】
2) If you will be absent, please inform your instructor in advance and check with classmates to find out a) what was covered, b) the homework, & c) what to prepare for next class.

成績評価の方法・基準 Ongoing assessment with 3 progress quizzes 30%, business case study communication tasks 10%, independent self-study 15%, group project & presentation 20%, active participation in class 10%, out of class e-learning as homework with online practice from publisher website 15%.

Unit tests will be corrected in class for immediate feedback and error analysis. Feedback on unit speaking assignments will be returned the same day using a grading rubric provided in the teacher's materials. Company projects will involve self-assessments, peer evaluation, and written feedback from the instructor on rubrics that separate individual and group scores for the target elements outlined in assignments.
