授業題目 Business English I
授業の概要 This spring term English course will foster student interest in using English for work by building self-expression abilities and intercultural understanding. Business English vocabulary, language in use, and typical business communications are presented in listening and speaking tasks with opportunities to participate actively and demonstrate the communication skills needed for problem solving and customer service in a global context.

学習の到達目標 This is a task-based 4-skills course that introduces students to the language and basic communication functions required in the workplace. The aims of the course are to develop student knowledge, skills, and attitudes where at the end of the course, students will be able to:
1) handle common interactions in English in a business setting, face to face and by telephone
2) manage basic transactions & exchanges in general business situations using English
3) demonstrate the ability to analyze strengths and weaknesses in business services and to explain companies and products in business presentations
4) use online study tools to review learning objectives and conduct self-assessments

授業外学習の課題 An online workbook of exercises from the publisher’s website will extend the lesson content beyond the classroom with time needed for homework, independent self-study, self-assessment, and preparation for unit progress quizzes. Case studies and video resources will provide content and samples to prepare worksheets in advance for meaningful discussions and authentic communication tasks in class.
履修上の注意事項 Students will be expected to participate actively in class activities with pair work, group work, and role plays.
This course taught in English focuses on input & output skills with the language necessary for practical communication purposes in business for:
(a) socializing, (b) exchanging information, (c) telephoning, and (d) meetings.
1) Please arrive on time, attend all lessons (limit absenteeism), & participate actively in this class taught in English, live, face-to-face on campus.対面
2) If you will be absent, please inform your instructor in advance and check with classmates to find out a) what was covered, b) the homework, &
c) what to prepare for next class.

成績評価の方法・基準 Ongoing assessment with 2 progress quizzes and a final exam 25%, communication tasks & weekly homework 20%, project & presentation 30%, active participation in class 10%, E-Learning outside of class with online practice from publisher website 15%.

Unit tests will be corrected in class for immediate feedback and error analysis. Feedback on unit speaking assignments will be returned the same day using a grading rubric provided in the teacher's materials. Company projects will involve self-assessments, peer evaluation, and written feedback from the instructor on rubrics that separate individual and group scores for the target elements outlined in assignments.
