授業題目 言語文化地域研究Ⅰ
授業の概要 This is a course in background the English speaking cultures with a focus on America. We will look at the birth of British colonial America from the time of Queen Elizabeth and see how 13 colonies developed through the 17th and 18th century. Then we will look at the birth of the U.S.A. during the American Revolution and study about what kind of new nation was formed. Then we will study how, in the 19th century, a large country grew to California and even Hawaii. We also take a look at the war between the States (the U.S. Civil War) and the history of slavery. Then we turn to the (Second) Industrial Revolution in America including the history of immigration. Then we move into the 20th century and study the development of modern America. Finally we will see how the U.S. led the way with the Digital Revolution in the late 20th and early 21st century.
